Movie Review: Amakye and Dede

As the saying goes, "Funny is money." The person who can write funny has a definite edge over the person who finds it difficult. So if your sense of humor is low, what can you do about it? …GO AND WATCH AMAKYE and DEDE. The excitement you get as soon as the movie starts is off this world, as few Ghanaian movies would give such a rush of excitement. Could we call this the first comedy movie in Ghana? many of you may ask, well all I can say is KOFAS did a very very good job on this movie.

Everyone was excited when the movie was announced and I bet people were more excited about the lead duo; Richard Asante(Kalybos) and Majid  Michel. The two put up an excellent performance. But most of my attention was on Majid, because the actor is known for playing "lover boy" roles, and even though it was not a difficult role for him to fit in, for me he did a very Great Job. Others who impressed me were John Dumelo and Roselyn Ngissah. These two greats played roles you won't normally see them play, and "killed it." On the whole, all the actors played their roles to Perfection. I would want to commend Aunty Grace Nortey for her performance also, she brought "new school vs how the oldies go about their business."

When I watch a movie, there are a few things I look forward to, the chemistry of all the actors in the movie, the camera angles, the quality of the pictures and the message carried in the movie. This movie managed to do justice to all of them. There were also great locations for shooting.

For the three lead role acts, all I can say is they didn't disappoint at all. Before I went to watch the movie, I heard people say, Priscilla Agyeman(Ahuof3 Patri) was very dull in her role, but I would like to shun all those who said that and say she did very good and played her part very well.

One thing I loved about the movie was the fusion of  "Kumahood" actors and  "Ghallywood" actors, it only shows us that we can make great productions when we all come together and build the industry.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE MOVIE

  1. The two best friends, Amakye and Dede were mechanics but lived in a house more expensive than their pay grade.
  2. Amakye and Dede was shot in 2016, but the two were watching a football match played in 2014; yeah a world cup match between Ghana and Germany.
  3. I have never seen a politician who enjoys sweet until I watched the movie; Mr. Fred Nuamah you do all.

For me, this is the best movie so far in 2016, and I am praying for a sequel. I have ideas for a sequel though. I would give the movie 9.5/10 rating; yeah it was that good. There was a question I asked before the premiere of the movie; would Amakye and Dede live to its hype? Now I can proudly answer and say yes it did, Kudos Kofas Media. Amakye and Dede is a Kofas Media Movie production and it stars  Majid Michel, Kalybos, Ahuofe Patricia, John Dumelo, Roselyn Ngissah, Salma Mumin, Emelia Brobbey, Moesha Buduong, Grace Nortey, Fred Nuamah.
